CribCrew is an Android app that helps roommates manage the three biggest sources of household friction in one place: chores, shopping, and shared expenses.
What Problem Does It Solve? #
Living with roommates usually means the same recurring issues:
- chores are forgotten or feel unfair
- groceries run out or get bought twice
- shared expenses are awkward to track and settle
CribCrew gives a household one shared mobile space to coordinate these responsibilities without relying on group chats, sticky notes, or verbal reminders.
Key Features #
1. Shared Household Setup #
- Users can sign in, create a crib, or join an existing crib using an invite code.
- Each crib has its own members and its own shared data.
- Members can view the household roster, copy invite codes, update their profile name, and leave the crib when needed.
2. Chore Coordination #
- Create and manage household chores with due dates, descriptions, and rotation.
- Track completion history so everyone can see what has been done and by whom.
- Receive chore reminders and household completion updates through local notifications.
- Encourage follow-through through lightweight chore points rather than competitive leaderboards.
3. Shared Shopping List #
- Add, edit, assign, and complete shopping items in a shared list.
- Support urgency levels, notes, quantity units, and custom units.
- Show who added or purchased each item.
- Notify users when the shared shopping list changes.
4. Shared Expense Tracking #
- Add shared expenses and split them across roommates.
- Track balances and settlement-related actions.
- Keep household costs visible in the same app as chores and shopping.
5. Household Settings and Control #
- View crib members and share the household invite code.
- Configure notification preferences for chores, shopping, and expenses.
- Update your display name and leave the crib when needed.
Why It Stands Out #
CribCrew is designed around a practical, everyday student problem rather than a novelty use case. Instead of solving just one part of roommate life, it combines household setup, chores, shopping, and expenses into one connected workflow. The app is built around a real shared-household model, so users are not just managing personal lists: they are coordinating with actual crib members through shared household state.
We also made deliberate design choices to keep the app useful without making it socially stressful. For example, we avoided competitive leaderboards and instead used shared visibility, reminders, and points-based contribution tracking to support accountability in a lighter way.
